Celebrate Canada Day 150 without the guilt

Happy Birthday Canada.  There are plenty of celebrations and festivities for you to enjoy this weekend.  From your standard Canadian craft beer to local famous asian ramen noodles, all the calories will definitely add up.  So here are 3 tips you can employ this weekend to make this Canada's Day celebration healthier and guilt free.

Motivation tends to be stronger earlier in the day. Make it a point to get your workout in before you start the day (and definitely before booze).  Morning hot Yoga class is a great idea before brunch. Many local yoga studios offer morning classes so you don't have to think about it for the rest of the day. (If you would like to join me, I practice at Moksha Downtown). Have a healthy shake/meal before hitting the Party

Don't just count on your will power. Preparation is the key to success.  Before you head to a party, have a healthy shake/meal. Instead of eating way too much hors d'oeuvres, you can use those calories for the glass of wine you really like.  Many parties tend to serve food in buffet style. A great tip is to grab a plate and don't go back for seconds.  Many times people lose track of their food intake as they graze.  

 

Count Your Drinks

This is probably going to be the toughest or the easiest depending on who you are.  There is no two ways about it. Booze is estrogenic and will slow down your metabolism.  Many of us enjoy a drink or two, especially in the social setting to relax and get into the mood of conversation.  My advice is to count your drinks and go for the less sugary kind.  Sip a Tequila on the rocks rather than the sugary cooler.  Don't have two drinks back to back.  Have a glass of water/club soda in between.  Sometimes you may think you want another drink, but after awhile, you may change your mind.
